Point of New World Order

point of order – A claim made by a senator from the floor that a rule of the Senate is being violated. If the chair sustains the point of order, the action in violation of the rule is not permitted.

Glossary of the United States Senate

We heard that a lot for a bit, with the total replay that is cable news.  Democrats repeatedly called for points of order during the Strzok hearings, challenging the procedure, usually on the heels of seemed personal attacks or other unfounded allegations of “Deep State” or other fanciful intrusions.

Frankly, the Republican claim that the FBI is part of a “deep state” should be considered in the light in which it’s been offered; a ludicrous attempt to immunize a president from political and criminal harm; a president they’re not even sure of how deep his involvement in Russian election meddling goes.  Continue reading

There was a time when bullsh*t walked. It’s just not today.

It would probably be too dire of me to ask if everybody knew what the truth was.  So, I’ll take a different tact.

We all know or knew of a person, either we went to school with someone, worked on the job with someone or was in the military, especially in the military with someone like that, who at the end of the day was really full of shit.  We accept them for what and who they are; we acknowledge that they lie but because they may be part of our circle, we tolerate them; even at times enjoying their company.  But always, we recognize that what they’re selling is a bunch of fake.  We derisively yet jokingly say, “That mother%*cker can’t be relied on” or words to that effect. They’re not necessarily friends but yet sometimes more than acquaintances.  Continue reading

The Toppling of Balance

A column of tholeiitic basalt, part of the North Mountain Basalt lava flows of Jurassic age, between Tiverton and Central Grove in Digby County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

When you think of balance what comes most immediately to mind? Many of us would think of a scale, as in the Zodiac sign of Libra, the old-fashioned type where you had to equalize the weights of each of the scale’s trays. Or, maybe some of you think of a linear line, possibly considering the phrase, I’ll meet you in the middle, something commonly heard or thought of during times of crisis and compromise. And while I think of both, these days when I think of balance, I see in my mind’s eye, the many balancing rock formations precariously located around the world. I imagine them and I ask myself, why not us? Continue reading

Chip: The Dark Soul of O’Reilly, Fox News and its effect on the 🐘

Say the words, the old white man with the chip on his shoulder. It rolls off the tongue like classical literature, something reminiscent of The Old Man and the Sea.  And like the Hemingway story, the tale of the Bill O’Reilly, Roger Ailes and Fox News decades-long partnership could endure in similar fashion except it would evoke dark images of reprisal, corruption, bitterness and jealousy.

That’s because the main thing the newsman has wrought upon us, his biggest contribution to society left in his wake is his counterculture, dismissive and hateful viewpoint, fed to us in the guise of no-spin, no bull shit discussion.

As reported in Media Matters, “Fox News Bill O’Reilly has helped set the bar for the normalization and dissemination of right-wing hatred…” And, it’s that same coziness with the alt-right that now threatens to bring everything crashing to the ground.  The problem is Ailes, O’Reilly and others still at Fox forgot something about the hateful demographic they were trying to invigorate and seeking to control; and that is that it will get under your skin and become a part of you.
